Who are SeamStress Playchutes?
SeamStress was founded in 1994 by Sally Wilkins and Penny Stragnell and since then the company has manufactured thousands of Playchutes which have spread all over the world. As well as producing Playchutes, Sally and Penny have provided training in the use of Playchutes, written articles for a variety of educational journals and published several booklets of Playchute Games. Sally left the company in October 2009 to pursue other interests and since then Penny has been running the show single-handedly.
When the UK government raised the rate of VAT to 20% in January 2011, Penny took the decision to de-register for VAT rather than having to pass this increase on to customers. While this makes materials somewhat more expensive (the company no longer reclaims VAT on supplies) it does mean that from 6 April 2011 customers will no longer be charged VAT and hence will enjoy, effectively, a 20% reduction on previous prices. Unfortunately, it is not possible to apply this reduction retrospectively.
"Our early use of parachutes convinced us of the need for a far superior product than was available on the market. We felt manufacturers had little concept of what the users required. No allowance was made for the extensive range of user groups, nor for the diverse activities being developed by ourselves and others. We saw a need for choice of colours, size and for far greater strength and durability.
